Severe flooding in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region has forced the evacuation of more than 20,000 residents after two days of torrential rain. More than 14 rivers crested their banks forcing people to climb onto the roofs of buildings and homes, awaiting rescue. Dozens of cities and towns have been submerged and thousands of landslides have occurred in what has been called the worst floods to affect Italy in a century. Up to 27,000 people have been left without power according to the Italian distributor of electricity and gas.
