Unprecedented flooding in and around the capital city of Quito, Ecuador has killed at least 24 people and injured up to 47. Local authorities said rains this heavy had not been measured since 2003, and flooding was made worse by water washing off the slope of the nearby Pichincha volcano. Mud, water and rocks swept through city streets washing away cars and flooding homes. Parts of the city are also without power after electrical poles were brought down.
