Hurricane Ida hit parts of Louisiana and Mississippi Sunday, August 29, 2021, with wind gusts up to 172 mph. More than a million customers were left without electricity, including all of New Orleans. As of August 30, one death was blamed on the storm. Ida left many residents on coastal Louisiana trapped by floodwaters and waiting to be rescued. Hurricane Ida is expected to take a toll on the energy, chemical and shipping industries which have major hubs along the Gulf Coast.
