Pakistan Earthquake

On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake shook Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan. The quake struck in the middle of the night, bringing down dozens of houses as residents slept inside. At least 20 people were killed and hundreds more were injured. The area also has a large number of coal mines, which are vulnerable to collapse. The U.S. Geological Survey said that the earthquake had struck at a shallow depth of 9 km, making it potentially more damaging.
